How to Make Oven Taco Pizza

Taco Pizza Recipe

Homemade Taco Pizza is one of my families’ favorites. You can make your pizza on a pizza stone, metal pan, or cookie sheet. Make sure you can cut your pizza with the pan you choose. Many pre-made crusts come with a tray you can bake your pizza on.

Have you considered trying stuffed crust? Adding the twist of stuffing the crust makes it extra cheesy and fun to make.

Taco pizza can also taste great with stuffed crust. If you want a stuffed crust, I recommend making your own homemade crust instead of using a pre-made crust. There is more information at the end of this article if you want to make your taco pizza with stuffed crust. My preference is boxed or bagged crust that you mix up.

Taco pizza has hot and cold ingredients, which makes it taste delicious. The best part is, there are so many different options for toppings that you can choose what you like best.

Ingredients:

  • 2 boxes or bags of pizza crust mix
  • 2 pounds (16 oz bag) of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pound (16oz bag) of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 16 oz Bottle Taco Sauce (For an Alternative Use Pizza or Spaghetti Sauce)
  • 1-pound Hamburger
  • 1 can of black beans or refried beans
  • Taco Seasoning (For an Alternative Use Spices: cumin, and red pepper)
  • Mushrooms (optional)
  • String Cheese (optional for stuffed crust)

Toppings

  • Lettuce
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1 small onion (optional)
  • 1-pound (16 oz bag) Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 can of black olives (optional)
  • Taco Sauce (optional)
  • Sour Cream (optional)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

Follow the directions on the bag or box of your pizza crust. Use 2 bags or boxes to make a thicker stuffed crust. Usually, you add about ¼ cup of warm water to each bag or box of the flour mix and you let it sit for 5 minutes. Roll out your crust on a clean floured surface.

1. Pre Cook Crust

Put the crust on your pan, cookie sheet, or pizza stone and bake for 3-5 minutes until slightly brown. Baking it with no toppings for a short time ensures you won’t get a soggy crust.

2. Cook Hamburger

Pre-cook hamburger and add taco seasoning to the hamburger and make sure it is chopped up to small pieces.

3. Cut Raw Toppings

Chop up the Lettuce, Tomatoes, onion and open the can of black olives. These will be your raw ingredients. Set Aside.

4. Add Sauce and Meat

Spread a thin layer of sauce on the dough. Use your favorite spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce. If you use a 16 oz jar of sauce you don’t have to use the whole jar.

5. Cut Cooked Toppings

Cut up a small onion. Open your can of black beans or refried beans. The type of bean you use will change the taste of your pizza substantially. Evenly place the beans and onion on the pizza. Sprinkle with a pound of mozzarella cheese.

6. Bake

Place in preheated 400 degrees F oven for 10-15 minutes.

7. Remove From the Oven and Put on The Rest of Your Toppings

  • lettuce
  • tomatoes
  • black olives
  • taco sauce
  • sour cream
  • and cheddar cheese.

Enjoy!

*Taco Pizza is best served hot. If you need to store leftovers keep the lettuce separate from the pizza otherwise the lettuce will get soggy.

Stuffed Crust

To make the crust stuffed, roll your crust the shape of your pan and make it about 2 inches wider in diameter. Line the string cheese around the border of the crust. Roll the crust around the string cheese so the string cheese is on the border of the pizza and completely covered by crust.
